No doubt kids love to cook, bake, create ...  and kids love play dough .... so baking an apple tart together is the perfect combination of baking + dough! Pie dough is a lot of fun, very play dough like with all the satisfaction of baking.

Using homemade or store bought dough, this recipe for a Turkey inspired Apple Tart is something kids could accomplish with just a tad of help (cutting apples, managing the oven). Plus? It's really playful and makes me smile.

Day 8 of the Inspired Family: Turkey Handprints.

Handprints are a favorite way to document time and age (oh those little pudgy fingers!). I love this take on handprints dressed as turkey to create a playful keepsake.

If Thanksgiving day seems too busy to complete this project... any day this month would work well to handprint your family now... fun!

Day 7 of the Inspired Family: Thanksgiving Boat Placecards.

Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and will surely be here in a flash! I always seem to do things last minute, but why not take some time and get crafty now?

The kids will love making these simple boats -- that can be used for placecards as the tutorial explains... or just for fun on the Thanksgiving table. The boats can be filled with pebbles (as shown) or... candy? And let the kids write out the names of family & friends if using as placecards. This will open great conversation about who is who ... funny stories, even!

Day 4 of the Inspired Family: Autumn Coloring Sheets .. feuilles d'automne à colorier!

I am honestly not a huge fan of coloring pages. Too much staying in the lines to color a pretty picture and very little creativity. BUT? I love these Autumn Coloring pages by Auggie because they are so much more!

Each page identifies the tree type by it's leaf along with it's name in both French and English.  Go for a walk, gather leaves and then take  some time to figure out who is who while trying out your French.

Earlier this week we all went outside and gathered leaves. Did you also happen to find any interesting branches? With a collection of branches, big and small and some yarn, thread or ribbon kids (even the little guys!) can be satisfied with this branch weaving project.

What size of branch did you kids choose? Why? And weaving material? Bulky or tiny? Colors? Endless possibilities.

I love when I find a nursery that has a theme ... but it's not over done, you know? The drama of the deep blue-ish charcoal walls, the warm wood and amazing wall painting all speak of Nautical without really going there.

It's fun. And I love how color is used. Bright but subtly.

Day 2 of the Inspired Family: Kid Drawn Votive Candle Holder "Covers"

I see it in my kids' eyes when they know what they did (made, created or action) is appreciated. Valued. With such crazy fast paced days it's easy to forget to let our kids know just how much we value what they do.

That's why I like this project. Following the simple directions on Herz Allerliebst(use Google Translate) use baking parchment paper to create votive candle drawings and see your kids -- and their drawings -- light up when the candle is burning. Placing the votives on the dining table gives place and meaning, certainly giving value to what your child created! [And of course follow all safety precautions as even though it's baking parchment, it could cause a flame]
