SUM creator Susie Mendive honed her skills designing for the whimsically feminine brand stila cosmetics. Her imaginative designs lead her to launch SUM in 2005. “I often found myself creating a pattern for a new makeup collection and thinking, I wish I could have this exact look in wallpaper!” What makes her collections unique is the non-traditional approach to a traditional medium such as wallpaper. “I usually don't think in terms of classic reapeats”, she states, “I try to imagine what would look great splashed along a wall or design something for maximum impact in a small space and work from there.” Her first foray was a series of individual wallpaper panels (Floral Femme Fatale) that can be reconfigured into a clients own custom arrangement. This approach has resonated with clients from Savannah to Stockholm.
